The offhand harassment was doing a good job of keeping her voice from cracking into the angry, betrayed tone that she would have liked to take. It kept her from voicing more than ten years worth of hatred and blame.

It had taken her the first ten hours of her search to leave that behind so she could civilly inquire to his whereabouts. Eighteen hours spent in two cities and more seedy bars than she could count with all her fingers and toes led her to the dingy, abandoned building where she didn't doubt Vergil had spent the night.
